Ghana’s Accam poised for ‘huge game’ against the USA

The winger says the upcoming friendly fixture will be a good platform for players plying their trade in MLS to show their quality

United States-based Ghana attacker David Accam is eagerly awaiting the international friendly with the Yanks in two months.

Accam, who plays for Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire, hopes to be on the roster when the Black Stars face Bruce Arena’s men in East Hartford, Connecticut, on July 1.

With a growing number of Ghanaians in MLS despite concerns over the pedigree of the league, the winger hopes the quality of the topflight will be brought to bear on the day.

“It will be a huge game for Ghanaian players that play in the USA because there are a lot of young soccer fans here,” Accam told Kwese ESPN.

“This will be a good opportunity for Ghana to gain many more followers here.

“The league has quality now and hopefully that growing respect will rub off all of us who play here.

“I think most Ghanaians still have the perception that the MLS is not a good league, but we all saw what they did to us at the last World Cup with a squad dominated by players from that league.”

Ghana’s last meeting with the United States ended in a 2-1 defeat at the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil.

The Black Stars play Mexico three days before the encounter with the Stars and Stripes.
