The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has rubbished claims that the Ghanaian market is inundated with plastic rice, contrary to assertions on social media.
The FDA, following circulation of videos on social media platforms claiming the existence of plastic rice in the country, conducted laboratory test to ascertain the veracity of the claim.
But the result of its tests, according to the FDA, proves that there is no plastic rice on the Ghanaian market.
Addressing a press conference today Friday June 23, 2017, the CEO of the FDA, Mimi Darko, noted the tests proved the supposed plastic rice were authentic rice with a higher starchy content.
She said “there is currently no plastic rice on the market” and the FDA is monitoring the situation in partnership with the international community.
