Flagbearer of the People’s National Convention has responded to critics of his presidential appointment saying he didn’t need their permission to accept it
The presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC) during the 2016 elections, Dr Edward Nasigri Mahama has declared the association of his political in his appointment as ambassador is completely unnecessary.
Dr. Mahama revealed that the president’s appointment was independent of his duties for his political party, the PNC. He noted that he didn’t require the approval of his party before accepting the offer that was given him.
He said he found it only necessary to discuss the issue with his running mate.
‘’I do not think it was necessary to discuss the issue with the party because it is not a party matter. I was first approached about the matter in January and I asked to be given some time to think about it”, he told Accra based station Okay FM.
‘I am convinced I have not disregarded any rules of the party and I am committed to lead the party until a new leader is chosen at the next congress’.
The politician who also doubles as a surgeon says it is very premature for people to continue making assumptions that he has given up on his presidential ambitions noting that only time will tell.
Dr. Edward Nasigri Mahama was among the president’s appointees in his second batch of 22 ambassadors as an Ambassador at Large of the country on Monday, July 10, 2017.
An Ambassador at Large is the highest ranking diplomat who represents his country internationally without specific duties to a delegated nation.
