Kotoko head coach discharged from hospital

Kotoko head coach, Steve Polack, is the last but one person to be discharged from the hospital after the Porcupine Warriors were hit by a fatal accident on their way from a league game against Inter Allies.

He was discharged on Thursday and declared fit to go home, but it would take sometime for him to be back to full fitness and start training with the team.

The coach was on the team bus with 18 players and technical team members when it crashed into a stationary KIA truck on the Nkawkaw stretch of the Accra-Kumasi Highway on Wednesday July 12, 2017 more than three hours after the Inter Allies-Kotoko league match at the El Wak Stadium.

The horrifying incident claimed the life of the team’s Deputy Equipment Officer, Thomas Obeng Asare, whose one-week rites were held on Wednesday at Esereso.

Coach Polack’s release from the hospital comes three days after midfielder, Ollennu Ashitey was also ‘set free’ by KATH.

The accident caused players and the officials to be trapped in the bus for hours

The Kotoko coach left KATH on Thursday evening. He was driven home by Accra and Premier League Board Representative, Thomas Boakye Agyeman. Polack, who underwent a successful knee surgery 24hours after the accident, received numerous visits. The last of the heart-warming and dignifying visits came from the Chief of Staff of Manhyia Palace, Kofi Badu.

The bus driver, Nana Berchie, who has also been on admission, is the only person remaining at KATH, but he is responding to treatment.

The other players who were all treated and discharged hours after the accident, are also faring well in their recuperation.

Meanwhile, the coach of the youth team, Ernest Appau, has been asked to take charge of the team until things become normal at the club.

Asante Kotoko trained for the first time since the accident last week on Thursday morning, with about 14 players showing up for training.
