The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has decided to now employ medical doctors and dentists under a quota system beginning next year.
The Director General of the GHS, Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare who made this known said the move was to help practice where doctors refuse posting to deprived areas.
“Unfortunately, it has been observed that the most young medical officers and dentists are reluctant to accept posting to work in such needy areas after their housemanship. This year, we have started interviewing doctors; we are not posting them anymore. We are not going to sit in Accra again and post any doctor” he said.
Dr Nsiah Asare said this when he addresss the 2017 grandaunt of the university Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology on Saturday.
According to him, that will curb the practice where some doctors decline posting to deprived areas.
