Flashback Videos: The final day of the Election petition and the reactions from both sides

Supreme Court building in the city of Accra, Ghana.

By Forgive Adjoa Forfoe, GhanaNet News

The election petition of 2013 will forever be remembered by Ghanaians and the world outside Ghana.

It was not only history that was made but it  also an 8-month long tortourous battle for Ghanaians who were ‘presidentless’ for the first time after elections in the country’s history, though a president had been sworn in.

The race was actually between Nana Addo( left) and John Mahama ( right)

It is exactly four years ago [August 29, 2013] today, when then biggest opposition party, the New Patriotic Party,NPP, led by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, then running mate, challenged the 2012 presidential election results that declared John Dramani Mahama as President, and took the matter to the highest court of the land, The Supreme Court.

Their argument was that there were evidences that the election had been rigged in favour of then candidate, John Mahama of the NDC

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, now Vice President, then running mate for the NPP, led the NPP to petition the court

They therefore wanted the court to declare their candidate president to overturn the Electoral Commission’s earlier declaration.
