The Deputy Minister of Local Government, O.B Amoah, has directed Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Northern Region not to honour contents of a letter requiring them to pay GH¢5,000 each towards the President’s 3-day tour of the area.
All 26 MMDCEs from the region were expected by the close of today October 2, 2017, to raise the amount which is meant for refreshment of persons who will converge at durbar grounds, in honour of the President who is expected to begin a 3-day tour of the region starting October 6, 2017.
But the Minister said such payments have not been sanctioned by the Local Government Ministry, adding that the President has specific budget meant for such expenditures. He has accordingly advised MMDCEs to ignore the letter from the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC).
He added “We have not sanctioned any letter of such nature. The Presidency has its budget to cater for such expenditure. I was expecting the Regional Coordinator to know better or the Chief Director who wrote the letter to know the implications of what he is writing that you cannot impose such a directive on the MMDAs. This is not a party program for you to direct all constituency chairmen to make contributions towards such tour.”
