New Akuapem chief to be installed in 6-months – Gyasehene

The Gyasehene of Okuapeman Traditional Area, and the overlord of Amanokrom, Nana Osim Kwatia II, has assured natives of Okuapeman of the immediate installation of a new Chief for the Akuapem Paramountcy.

It has been over two years after Oseadeyo Nana Addo Dankwah III, Okuapemanhene died.

His death led to controversy over the eligibility of the candidates vying for the stool. This controversy prevented Akropong people from hosting the 2017 Odwira Durbar.

Speaking to the media after a grand durbar held to commemorate the Odwira Festival, and to mark the 10th anniversary of his ascendancy to the Amanokrom Stool, Nana Osim Kwatia noted that, the absence of a substantive Chief for Okuapeman is hindering development.

“There are 11 kingmakers in the Akuapem State of which I happen to be one, it starts all the way from Aburi and the Chief there is a kingmaker, when you get to Awherease, the amankrado there is a kingmaker, then when you get to Amanokrom, the Gyasehene is a kingmaker, and when you continue to Akropong, the Asonahene is a kingmaker, Abonsahene is also a kingmaker, Benkum Kyeame is a kingmaker, Akrahene is also a kingmaker. All a candidate needs is an endorsement of 6 or more kingmakers to be the Chief of Okuapeman.”

“The theme is very perfect, that without our youth, we cannot achieve future development. However, the olden days when young people  respected authority and elders are no more, and the onus lies on parents and guardians to take their role of upbringing very seriously for the nation to benefit from all these kids.
