The Advertising Association of Ghana (AAG) has clarified that its members do not owe the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) in fees for putting up billboards.
According to the association, its members abide by the policies and instructions given them by AMA and thus disassociates itself from such assertion.
The AMA, on Tuesday, October 24, gave advertisers a three-day ultimatum to defray debts owed it or have their billboards pulled down.
But the Association believes the debt owed is by private advertising companies and not its members.
In an interview with Citi Business News, the Executive Director of the Advertising Association of Ghana, Francis Dadzie however said the step taken by AMA is one in the right direction.
“The announcement from the AMA is in the right direction. It doesn’t affect my members. We have been working and interacting and working with the AMA since the new mayor came into office. We have been working on a lot of things, trying to bring up policy direction documents for bill boards and even the procedures and processes. And we also have been engaging them and paying our revenues accordingly to the AMA” he said.
“The problem is from a lot of individual companies who took advantage of the last administration of the AMA and they have put up billboards in town, junctions and even some companies who have put up a lot of sign ages in town without paying anything to the AMA, they are the targets not our members” he added.
