I am encouraged when people say I am Illuminati – Sarkodie

Hip-Life superstar, Michael Owusu Addo, known in showbiz as Sarkodie, says he is not bothered when people think his continuous rise is because he is a member of the secret society, Illuminati.

Illuminati refers to several groups of both real and fictitious secret society perceived to be controlling events in the world.

Members of Illuminati are believed possess the deep secrets to acquiring wealth, fame and influence.

Since Sarkodie’s meteoric rise to the apex of show business in Ghana, rumours have suggested that he has joined the secret society – like many in showbiz are rumoured to have done.

Although he released a song strategically titled Illuminati in a bid to dispel the rumours, that did not seem to have worked.

Those who claim to have insight into Illuminati symbolism have also sought to criticise him for using them in his music videos.

Responding to the rumours that he is a member of the society on The Hard Truth on the Joy News channel on MultiTV,  Wednesday, Sarkodie suggested that although he is not affiliated to the group, the tag makes him feel positive about his achievements.

“I take it in a positive way…For [people] to make that comparison then it should tell you where you are. I am worried more [about] people who care about me, not what is said about me…I am more worried about family members who [broke down over the Illuminati tag] and it got to them.

“That was the only reason why I did the song. But personally, I don’t care. I think it is a good situation to be in [when] people feel like there is something more than just talent that can make you who you are,” he told show host Akosua Konadu.

In the song he released to dispel the rumours, Sakordie said he would have been an owner of an estate in Hawaii had he been a member of the secret society.

Superstition about Ebony’s death irritating – Father

Father of late dancehall artiste, Ebony Reigns, is appealing to prophets to stop associating his daughter’s death to voodoo.

Nana Opoku Kwarteng said the superstition about what caused Ebony’s death is so “irritating”.

He is convinced the ‘Maame Hwe’ hit maker born Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng has accomplished her mission on earth and has gone to rest in the bosom of the Lord.

Ebony Reigns, died in a gruesome road accident that occurred late Thursday evening on the Sunyani-Kumasi road.

Some prophets are claiming credit for predicting the sudden demise of the popular dancehall artiste.

Nana Opoku Kwarteng maintained that, his Ebony was not “immortal” thus would have died no matter what.

“Ghanaians talk too much because they are hypocrites but Ohemaa is ok. Her dressing and everything was on point and I’m proud to be associated with her” Nana Opoku Kwarteng stressed.

Ebony was on board a Jeep with registration AS 497-16, travelling from Sunyani to Kumasi when her vehicle collided with a VIP bus heading in the opposite direction, leading to her untimely death.

If I’m not dead by December, I will burn down some churches – Shatta Wale

Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah, has cautioned some men of God to desist from prophesying he will die soon.

He says if he is alive by December, he will march together with his Shatta Movement members to burn down the churches of those ‘fake’ pastors.

Shatta Wale said the only person who will stop him from taking such an action is the President.

In a video posted on Facebook, he warned that no one should play ‘chacha’ [gamble] with his life because he is a pro when it comes to such hide and seek games.

Shatta Wale said no one should try to show him God or the bible because he knows the almighty and the Bible very well.

He questioned how present-day pastors are living flashy and extravagant life when Jesus was never about that.

The Freedom singer’s comments follow news that some pastors prophesied Ebony Reigns death long before she died in an accident last Thursday.

My Ebony bailout comment misconstrued – Zylofon Media CEO

ylofon Media says its Chief Executive Officer, Nana Appiah Mensah, will on Monday clarify his social media post on the death of late dancehall musician Ebony Reigns.

It says it wants to put the issue to rest as many people have put their own interpretation on the issue.

According to Zylofon Media, it was a harmless post to express how its CEO feels about the unfortunate demise of the fast-rising singer.

Nana Appiah Mensah revealed in an Instagram post after Ebony’s death that he had a meeting with her and reached an agreement to sign her onto his record label.

He said Ebony born, Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng had asked that he helps her pay off someone, suspected by many to be her current handler, so she gets her freedom.

“We had a fruitful meeting and reached an agreement last Tuesday. “please help me pay him for my bailout I want to be free’’ I hope you’re free now and find absolute peace in the bosom of the almighty God. Let’s pay critical attention to our females artistes,’ he said.

According to sources, the ‘Sponsor’ hitmaker was having some problems with her manager, Ricky Nana Agyeman, known in showbiz circles as Bullet.

There were rumours that Ebony was about to leave Ruff Town Records, owned by Bullet.

Speaking to Joy News, he claimed it will be suicidal for her to leave his label because he “made her” and can crush her career if need be.

“Ebony can never be ungrateful because I made her. I have the button to press to go up or to come down. If she becomes ungrateful, it is her own matter,” Bullet said.

Below is the press release:

Meet the young media entrepreneur set to release movie on Asantehemaa’s burial

The high unemployment rate in Ghana has created the awareness on the need for the youth to invest in entrepreneurship rather than depend on jobs in the public sector.

The President, Nana Akufo-Addo, has always encouraged the youth to venture into this field.

Two young people who saw this vision in 2014 got the ball rolling by setting up a media production studio, known as the Blackmor Studio.

According to the creators; Mclistowel Koranteng and Sena Avudzivi the name was couched from English and French backgrounds meaning ‘Black Love’.

In 2016, the exploits of the thriving young entrepreneurs got the attention of Joy Business Van, an SME-focused programme that runs on Joy FM and the Joy News channel on Multi TV.

The story talked about how two novice science students with no art background founded a media company and developed it to produce contents for some of the big global brands in the country.

Mclistowel and Sena sought to project and tell the African story with their works. Fast forward to 2018 Blackmor Studios is set to release a movie inspired by the recently held burial ceremony of the Asantehemaa and the usual ‘myths’ hovering around it.

The movie which seeks to discuss the increase rate of ritual killings on the continent tells the story of how an American student who follows her Ghanaian course mate home for vacation is abducted during the burial ceremony of the village’s queen mother, and how the traditional palace is blamed for it.

“Despite the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights’ that provides an individual is entitled to respect for his life and integrity of his person, ritual killings and the practice of human sacrifice continue in several African countries. Because of the secrecy involved in ritual sacrifices, a majority of these incidents go unreported and uninvestigated. Anti-sacrifice advocates face an uphill battle in combating these rituals because the practices are largely denied and touch on cultural underpinnings, resulting in an ideological conflict between protection of human rights and respect for the beliefs and practices of our cultures.”

“Telling provocative African stories has always been the goal and I think as Filmmakers is paramount our works open dialogues on some of these social issues and seeks to inspire change in our societies. I’m very much excited about this project and I can’t wait for you all to see it”, stated Mclistowel when queried about the movie.

The story, written by MclistowelKoranteng is also set to be his directorial debut. Rising Television presenter and producer, ElinamAmenyo (Eli Kharis) of GHOne is set to produce it and will be executive produced by Martin Anakwa.

Although in its pre-production phase, the movie is going to star a few known names and give chances to the many aspiring young actors who want a stage to showcase their talent.

Playboy Fred Johnson (Gator) of Home Sweet Home fame is set to make a comeback to the movie scenes as he features in this.

If the screenplay of this film is anything to go by then this movie is going to be timely and one of the most thought-provoking movies to hit our screens in a long while.

Joe Mettle challenges MUSIGA’s Top 20 Songs for 2017

The 2017 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards’ Artiste of the Year, Joe Mettle has expressed doubt about the authenticity of the list of 20 songs that had much radio airplay in 2017.

The list which excludes gospel songs has raised controversies on the back of explanations that gospel songs did not have enough radio airplay in 2017.

According to gospel musician Joe Mettle who spoke in an interview on Accra-based Happy FM, “without research, one can tell gospel songs are played constantly on air.”

He challenged the list which was compiled by Qisimah Insight, saying he did not believe the research was well done.

“Until we are shown the bases of the research, the top 20 most played songs is just their opinion and that cannot be challenged,” Joe noted.

While some arts and entertainment critics have said the list should have included at least a gospel song, others also hold the opinion that gospel music did not fare well in 2017.

Joe Mettle, whose ‘Bo Noo Ni’ has been described as one of the top gospel songs in Ghana at the moment, released the ‘God of Miracle’ album.

Some have asserted that he is likely to win the VGMA Artiste of the Year award again this year.
