Akufo-Addo condemns assassination attempt on Donald Trump

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has condemned the attempted assassination of the former President of the United States, Donald Trump, stating that politically motivated violence undermines the principles of democracy and peace.

This comes after the former president was injured in an attempted assassination at a rally on Saturday, July 13, in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Shots rang out as Trump was speaking at the event in Pennsylvania, sparking panic in the crowd as Secret Service agents swarmed the former president.

President Akufo-Addo, in a statement, expressed his outrage and extended his best wishes to Trump and the American people.

“On behalf of the government and the people of Ghana, I condemn in the strongest terms the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump. Such acts of politically motivated violence have no place in our world and undermine the principles of democracy and peace that we all hold dear.

“We send our heartfelt best wishes to President Trump and the American people during this difficult time, and we pray for swift and complete recovery.”

Meanwhile, Trump, who emerged with a bloodied face, said he was shot in the ear, describing a “whizzing sound” and feeling a “bullet ripping through the skin.”

The FBI identified the gunman as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks; he was shot and killed by the Secret Service.

One spectator was killed at the rally and two others were critically injured.
