Exit fees for foreign visitors have been increased on the most beautiful island in the world, Maldives

The Maldives, which is well-known for its white sand beaches and opulent resorts, raised its departure fee for visitors departing the nation on December 1

According to CNN, foreign passengers in business class now have to pay $120 in taxes, up from $60, and those in economy class must pay $50, up from $30.

According to the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority’s website, first-class passengers now pay $240 instead of $90, while private jet passengers now pay $480 per person instead of $120.

Passengers with diplomatic immunity, transit passengers, and children under the age of two are among the groups that are excluded from the charge, according to Fox News.

The largest transit hub in the Maldives, Velana International Airport, would be maintained and cared for using the money raised by the higher fee.

As part of this year’s World’s Best Awards, Travel + Leisure magazine readers voted the Maldives, a group of over 1,000 islands in the Indian Ocean, the most beautiful island in the world in July.

The Maldives’ main source of foreign cash is still tourism, with the nation aiming to 2 million arrivals in 2024.
