Ghanaians Urged to Prioritise Regular Health Check-Ups
The Presiding Elder of the King Assembly in the Sunyani South Industrial Estate District of the Church of Pentecost, Michael Agyeman Debrah, has called on Ghanaians to prioritise regular health check-ups. Speaking during a comprehensive health screening event in Abesim near Sunyani, Elder Agyeman Debrah emphasised the importance of early detection in managing health conditions effectively.
He noted that regular check-ups provide opportunities for individuals to receive personalised advice on maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including guidance on nutrition, exercise, and mental health. “For those with a family history of specific illnesses, frequent visits may be necessary,” he added.
The health screening event, organised by the church in partnership with the Optimal Wellness Association, aimed to raise awareness and identify potential health issues among its members. Over 250 congregants participated, benefiting from services provided by a team of dedicated healthcare professionals and volunteers from local clinics and hospitals.
The screening covered various conditions, including diabetes, blood pressure, HIV, hepatitis, and eye health. Attendees received immediate feedback and recommendations on managing blood sugar levels, blood pressure, and other key health indicators through diet and lifestyle adjustments.
Elder Agyeman Debrah lamented the tendency of many Ghanaians to seek medical attention only when seriously ill, leading to late diagnoses of potentially manageable conditions. He advised citizens to undergo at least one comprehensive health check-up annually, including screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, and Body Mass Index (BMI).
He commended the healthcare professionals and volunteers for their contribution to the success of the event and expressed the church’s commitment to supporting the holistic well-being of its community.
“Our goal is to empower our members with the knowledge and resources they need to lead healthier lives. This event’s success has inspired us to consider making it an annual initiative,” he stated.
Plans are underway for additional health-related workshops and seminars to further educate and support the congregation. The initiative reflects the church’s dedication to fostering both spiritual and physical wellness within the community.
The event highlights the growing need for increased awareness about preventive healthcare in Ghana, reinforcing the message that regular health check-ups are essential for early detection and effective management of health conditions.
