Sewua building collapse: Police begin investigation into death of mason
An investigation has commenced into the tragic death of the mason in his early forties, who lost his life in Sewua, Ashanti Region when a two-story building collapsed on him.
The construction project at Sewua has been put on hold following the unfortunate demise of Kwaku Gyamfi, the mason who was engaged in the building work.
The building, owned by the deceased’s brother-in-law, was initially started by a different contractor before it was transferred to Kwaku Gyamfi.
Gyamfi had observed that the building was marred by cracks and weak pillars. In a bid to prevent the structure from collapsing, he visited the construction site on Wednesday, July 17, to erect new pillars for support and to repair the cracks.
Regrettably, Gyamfi was caught in the building when it collapsed while he was trying to flee.
The deceased’s brother has confirmed that Gyamfi’s body has been taken to the morgue. The family is cooperating with the police as the investigation is underway.
Prince Kwame Adutwum, the assembly member of the area, has advised residents to liaise closely with the District Assembly before initiating any construction projects.
