Students at Duu JHS and Primary in North East study on the floor, Old Students donate 20 desks and call for support

The students at Duu JHS and Primary school in the North East Region of Ghana sit on the on the floor to learn due to lack of furniture.

The school, located in the West Mamprugu District, has a student population of about 1,000 children, and all of them sit on the floor during instructional hours with their teachers.

Touched by the inhumane environment the children study under, some old students of school, known as Duu Old Students Union in Accra have donated 20 dual desks to the school to support teaching and learning.

These old students, who also sat on the same floor over 20 years ago, led by its President Zakari Bukari pulled together resources to purchase the desks after earlier attempts by Muftawu Nabila Abdulai, an old student of the school to have the office of the Vice President support the school could not yield results.

Speaking on JoyNews, Muftawu Nabila, who is a sports journalist with the Multimedia Group stated: “It is unclear if the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ever got to know [that he needed help to fix the school], but I did speak to people in his office to help us fix it.”
