Tourism Ministry putting measures in place to promote tourism

As part of efforts to promote tourism, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture is embarking on some initiatives to make Ghanaian culture and heritage attractive to tourists.

To that extent, the Ministry is consulting with the relevant agencies to review Ghana’s Cultural Policy document to accommodate modern development trends that will make Ghanaians’ interaction with other cultures smooth globally.

Mr John Yao Agbeko, the Chief Director of Ministry, who disclosed this at the launch of the Heritage Month in Accra, said the Ministry was working with the Ministry of Justice and Attorney-General’s Department to draft the Cultural Heritage Development Fund to provide the necessary financial resources to fund cultural activities.

He added that the Ministry and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) had developed a Heritage Strategic Framework to manage Ghana’s diverse heritage resources effectively.

That framework, he said, would serve as a national strategic blueprint from which all key stakeholders in the tourism, arts and culture sector would draw their annual action plans.

Heritage Month is organized every year in March to celebrate Ghana’s culture, heritage and to promote tourism.

This year’s celebration is with the theme “Embracing our unique Ghanaian diversity.
