Uganda stun Nigeria with late victory in African Games


In a nail-biting clash at the 13th African Games, Uganda emerged victorious against Nigeria in their opening encounter, securing a 2-1 win in a game filled with twists and turns.

Uganda opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, setting the stage for an intense battle. However, the resilient Nigerian side quickly responded, as Sadiq Isiyaka netted an equaliser in the 38th minute, levelling the scoreline.

The second half proved to be a challenge for the Nigerian team, as an uninspiring performance allowed Uganda to capitalise on their opportunities.

In the 81st minute, Uganda seized the lead with a stunning out-of-the-box strike, leaving Nigeria with little time to mount a comeback.

The final scoreline ended 2-1 in Uganda’s favour marking a memorable victory for the East African side in their first game at the 2023 African Games.

The match showcased the unpredictable nature of football and the determination of the Ugandan side to secure a positive start in the tournament.

In another exciting fixture, 16-year-old Lamine Sadio became the hero for Senegal, scoring the lone goal that secured a 1-0 victory against South Sudan in the first football game of the competition.

As the football extravaganza continues, all eyes are now on the upcoming clashes. Hosts Ghana are set to face Congo at the Accra Sports Stadium at 3 pm, while Gambia will go head-to-head with Benin after in what promises to be an action-packed Friday.
