Unemployed nurses, midwives demonstrate over delayed postings

Members of the Graduate Unemployed Nurses and Midwives Association (GUNMA) have staged a demonstration in Tamale in the Northern Region over the delay in their posting.

The group says the Ministry of Finance has failed to provide financial clearance for their posting despite the successful completion of their Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) licensing exams.

They are therefore calling on government to clear the backlog of nurses and midwives from 2020, 2021, and 2022.

GUNMA alleges that despite the rigorous training and the critical need for healthcare services across the country, members have been left in a frustrating limbo, unable to secure employment.

Earlier, a petition had been sent to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, for assistance in addressing their concerns.

The association is therefore optimistic that the public demonstration will highlight the severity of their situation and the potential impact on healthcare delivery should their skills continue to be underutilized.
